Conspiracy of Hope

If you have a heart, a soul, a child and/or a conscience - you cannot go another day ignoring the horrors of child sex trafficking.  Every 2 minutes a child is sexually exploited.  Today is the day that our collective perspective needs to change.

Famewhores vs. Rationally Religious

I don’t know about you, but I’m disgusted by all of the fear-laden, misinformed, famewhore extremists who are garnering worldwide media exposure only to use it as a platform to bastardize God, Faith, and Religion.

Pardon my rant, but the last couple of months have been ridiculous.

Let's call a spade a spade on a few of these folks. . .

Contrary to the prediction of radio host (and fringe Christian leader) Harold Camping, the rapture did not occur on May 11, 2011 at 6pm. . .or at midnight.  Our sacred text reveals that “no one knows the day or the hour" of Christ’s return.  Thanks, Harry, for making Christians worldwide the butt of every joke for months and thanks for making us all look like tools.  (I'm sure you were well-intentioned, but you should have known better.)

A Mother's Mustard Seed

Mothers are fierce, vulnerable and beautifully complicated creatures.

There is a belief within the Christian tradition that one can move mountains with faith the size of a mustard seed.

Jesus said -

20 ". . .Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”  Matthew 17:20

I didn’t fully absorb this Truth until I became a mother.

Would Jesus Have Killed Osama Bin Laden?

A question popped up on my Facebook newsfeed today that I felt compelled to publicly pose and answer.

The question:  Would Jesus have killed Osama Bin Laden?

My answer:  No.  Plain and simple.
No matter how many of us find our blood boiling right now with the joy of vengeance complete – Jesus most assuredly would not have killed this international murderer.

I implore the world to use caution when opening our mouths in fits of praise and rage.  The death of a human being, even one as vile as Osama Bin Laden, should never warrant the blood thirsty rants that have filled Twitter, Facebook and the Media over the last 24 hours.

As human beings we have all been created by God with His utmost love and precision.  It is a wise course of action, therefore, to at least give pause and pray for His Timing, Grace and Mercy when we see our community lusting for blood.

Royal Asshats

Once upon a time there was a snobby little country named England, whose people often towered over their younger, more virile sibling-country named America.  England thought itself much more evolved and mighty than the Americans across the pond; making fun of their customs, politics, religion and how they (correctly) spell words like “civilized” with a ‘z’ rather than an ‘s.’

Who could blame them?

Of course the English are more progressive than the Americans; after all, they have The Royal Family!  A beloved group of rich people who, once every couple of decades, host a royal wedding that attracts billions of spectators worldwide.

Any doubters of England’s clear superiority would be an immediate convert if they only more closely examined the most recent Royal wedding extravaganza that took place on April 29th between Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Oh, what an amazing spectacle indeed!

In case you missed it (which would mean you’ve been living under a rock) allow me to recap:

The day began, of course, with Queen Elizabeth. . .

. . .who sent a royal memo to Reverend John Hall, the Dean of Westminster, instructing him to wear gold -  she wanted them to dress as “sunshine same-sies.”  (They later let their hair down and stoically discussed the value of a good, ripe tomato.)
